“THANKSGIVING”
By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.
As we use each
letter of the word
Thanksgiving, we
will see only some
of the wonderful
gifts God has given
to you and me.
T is for time.
Twenty four hours
for three hundred
sixty five days each
year to spend as we
please and to make
memories which we
will hold forever
dear.
H is for hugs for
those we greet and
those going away, or
for encouragement
for someone who is
having a difficult
day.
A is for
achievements. As we
watch our dreams
come true, let’s
give the credit to
God for what he
allowed us to do.
N is for
nourishment. No
matter how much or
how little we are
fed, remember to
give thanks to God
who provides our
daily bread.
K is for knowledge.
It may be a
scientist who finds
a cure for a deadly
disease, or a mother
who explains a fear
and puts her child’s
mind at ease.
S is for silence
which is the part of
the day when all is
still. That is when
we can study God’s
word, pray and
listen to hear God’s
will.
G is for gentleness.
It may be a smile or
a word that is kind,
for even the
smallest gesture can
sway the spiritually
blind.
I is for imagination
which is the source
of every movie, play
and book that we
read. May we only
spend our time on
those with the moral
message we need.
V is for vacations.
It is a time to get
away from our daily
routine and duty,
even if it is to sit
in our yard and
enjoy nature’s
beauty.
I is for inspiration
from ministers and
teachers who help us
along life’s way,
for we remember
their lessons when
we are tempted to go
astray.
N is for our nation,
America, our great
country which is so
strong. God has
always been with us,
even though some of
our deeds are wrong.
G is for God’s Son,
who died for you and
for me, so we may
have eternal life,
for from sin we are
set free.
