"WHAT TALENTS ARE TO BE USED FOR GOD?"
By Dr. Hoyt W.
Allen, Jr.
Anyone who has been
a student of God's
word understands
that the Bible
teaches that mankind
has different kinds
of gifts (Romans
12:6-8; I Cor.
12:4-31). Those in
the Kingdom are all
needed to exercise
their various gifts
so that God will be
glorified and the
church will grow
numerically and
spiritually.
In a city, to be
successful, it takes
administrators
(mayor, councilmen,
managers, etc.) as
well as maintenance
personnel (law
enforcement,
water/sewage
department, trash
collectors, street
repairmen, etc.).
This is also true in
a hospital (medical
doctors, nurses,
laboratory and x-ray
technicians,
dietitians, clerical
workers,
maintenance,
security, etc.).
Large businesses and
industries follow
this same pattern.
The church is not
any different.
Just as in city
government, a law
enforcement officer
is not expected to
operate the
water/sewage plant,
and housekeeping
personnel in the
hospital is not
expected to do
surgery. In the
church, a person
performing one
ministry is not
expected to do every
ministry. A nursery
worker is not
expected to sing
solos nor is the
church secretary
expected to play the
piano. A teacher is
not expected to be a
van driver nor is
the van driver
expected to direct
the choir. Of
course, if a person
is talented in
several areas and
desires to use them
in various areas -
that is up to an
individual.
In conclusion, God
does not expect
every church member
to serve him in the
same manner.
However, he/she is
expected to use what
gifts (talents)
he/she has to bring
glory and honor to
God and his son,
Jesus. In fact, this
is commanded
(Matt.25:14-31). The
question of the hour
is - are you using
your talents to
serve the Lord? If
you are in question
as to what you can
do and do not know
what to do, PLEASE
contact a church
leader today and
request an area to
serve and offer your
services to bring
glory to God.
