"SHOULD A CHURCH SPONSOR A VBS?"
By Dr. Hoyt W.
Allen, Jr.
Vacation Bible
School is thought of
by some to be old
fashioned and not
needed in our modern
day. However, there
are a number of good
things which come
from VBS that merits
its continuation on
a yearly basis. Some
are:
1) It is a special
event and we need
special events
(birthdays,
anniversaries,
national holidays,
etc.) to draw our
attention to some
things which we as
humans have a
tendency to forget.
We are prone to
forget who created
us. That is why He
established a day of
worship and provided
weekly communion as
a reminder of our
redemption.
2) It provides an
avenue whereby youth
can learn more about
Jesus the Savior and
His church.
3) It serves as a
way to establish an
evangelistic spirit
into youth as they
invite their
friends.
4) It opens
opportunities for
youth to use their
talents during craft
time and grants them
a chance to share
specials (vocal and
instrumental), lead
in prayers, pledges,
serve as an offering
taker, etc.
5) It enrolls youth
who never or seldom
attend Sunday School
or worship and thus
their families
become prospects.
6) The closing VBS
program gets parents
and grandparents
into the church
building who seldom
attend.
7) It provides
opportunities for
adults to contribute
to the Kingdom of
God by sharing in
various ways:
1.Financial
2.Teachers 3.Crafts
4.Refreshments
5.Publicity
6.Praying 7.Helpers
8.Transportation
