“WHAT DOES IT REALLY TAKE TO SAVE A PERSON?”
By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.
A man who was enjoying a picnic near a rapid moving stream took a walk. He slipped and fell into the stream. He was not a swimmer and was about to be swept, by the water’s current over a water falls, to his death. Seemingly out of nowhere a rescuer appeared. The rescuer was in a rowboat and was rowing to the best of his ability to reach the drowning man before he went over the falls and met his death. He was within fifty feet of the man and knew he could not make it to him in time. Thus, he took the life preserver, which had a long rope attached, which was in the boat and threw it to the drowning man. The man took hold of the life preserver and rope and the rescuer began rowing into the current and thus pulled the drowning man away from the falls and to safety. Now, the question is, “What Was It That Saved The Man?”
Now, the big question of the hour is, “What does the Scriptures teach that it takes to save a person from sin and hell and grant salvation and the promise of heaven”? Look below for the answers!
I. DIVINE SIDE WHAT SAVES
1) ACTS 4:12 NAME OF JESUS
2) ROMANS 1:16 GOSPEL OF CHRIST
3) ROMANS 4:24,25 RESURRECTION OF CHRIST
4) ROMANS 5:8 GOD’S LOVE
5) EPHESIANS 2:7,8 GOD’S GRACE
6) I TIMOTHY 4:10 GOD
7) TITUS 3:5 GOD’S MERCY
8) I PETER 1:18,19 CHRIST’S BLOOD
II. HUMAN SIDE WHAT SAVES
1) I CORINTHIANS 1:21 PREACHING
2) ROMANS 10:17 HEARING
3) ACTS 16:31 FAITH
4) ROMANS 10:9,10 CONFESSION OF CHRIST
5) II CORINTHIANS 7:10 REPENTANCE
6) ACTS 2:38 BAPTISM
7) I TIMOTHY 4:16 WE
8) REVELATION 2:10 FAITHFULNESS
Now the “Big Question” is this! Have each of us who are reading this article realized that our sins have separated us from God (the Creator)? Then, have we taken the necessary steps to be “saved” from our sins and become a Christian? It is not what our parents have done for us or the teacher, preacher, or someone else ---- but have we obligated ourselves to Jesus Christ and not only accepted Him as our personal Savior, but have we made Him the Lord of our lives? If we have not, the Scriptures teach that NOW is the day to do it (II Corinthians 6:2). Please do not linger until it is “too late”!
