WHERE DID THE RACES COME FROM?
By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.
The question is often raised, If God made man - what race did He make him and where did all of the different races come from?
The Bible teaches that God created man and then woman (Genesis 1:26-31; 2:7-25). This first couple (Adam and Eve), which are the parents of all mankind had many children besides Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:25; 5:4).
There have been MANY THEORIES about the origin of the different races, but may it be understood that they are only theories. May it also be understood that in the Bible - The main things are the plain things and the plain things are the main things. In other words - may we not allow ourselves to get so deep in various mysteries that we do not smell the roses of life, which the creator God has extended to us human beings.
Some have concluded that the races came about when Noah's descendants got off of the ark following the world-wide flood that took the lives of all mankind (Genesis 6-8). The ark settled on Mt. Ararat. Then, it seems that they migrated back 500 miles to Babylonia, which was their Pre-Flood home area. Then many years later they were scattered by the Confusion Of Tongues (different languages), which took place at the Tower Of Babel. This was God-Directed (Genesis 11).
Others have concluded that as Noah's sons departed the ark they went in the following directions and the various races began by God's miraculous hand:
ïJAPHETH went north and settled in the regions of the Black and Caspian Seas. As an outcome the Caucasian races of Europe and Asia resulted.
HAM went south and settled in South and Central Arabia, Egypt, the East Shore of the Mediterranean and the East Coast of Africa. Thus, these citizens w ere his descendants.
SHEM went toward Assyria, Syria, and the Euphrates Valley. The people of Palestine are descendants of Shem.
Anthropologists divide mankind into three major stocks, the Caucasoid (Caucasian), or white; the Negroid, or black; and the Mongoloid, or yellow. Each of these is divided into a number of smaller groups or races.
ïMay we rest assured that there is not any pure race among us today. For countless generations man has been crossing and recrossing. Scientists tell us that any given race in Europe has some of the genes, or hereditary units, of almost all other races in Europe.
