“REPAYING GOOD FOR GOOD”

By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.

The following article came to me recently and I contended that I should pass it on. It has been slightly edited. Please read on.

Here's a true story that might put a good smile on your face. The story begins in Scotland and is about a farmer. His name was
Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from
a nearby bog.

He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse
surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved. "I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son’s life.

"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer
replied, waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son
came to the door of the family hovel.

"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked. "Yes," the farmer replied
proudly. "I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of."
That he did!

Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time, he
graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and

went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir
Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.

Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia. What saved his life this time? Penicillin.

The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. His son's name Sir Winston Churchill. Someone once said: What goes around comes around. Work like you don't need the money. Love like you’ve never been hurt. Dance like nobody’s watching. Isn’t this a great example for each of us?

The God of creation who provides all mankind with the breath of life, as well as the water we drink, the food we eat, and the air we breath is worthy of our praise, worship and service. Now, the big question that each of us must answer is, “What are we doing to truly uplift the God of creation? The Good Book (Bible) says that we demonstrate our faith by our works or actions (James 2:14-26).

A “starting place” might be as follows: a) Attending Church Services regularly (Heb. 10:25) b) Helping our fellow man (Luke 16:19-31) c) Singing to the Lord (Col. 3:16) d) Praying (Eph. 5:20 e) Tithing (Giving 10% to the Lord; Matt. 23:23; II Cor. 9:7) f) Reading the Bible regularly (II Tim . 2:15) g) Living a Godly Christian life (Eph. 5:29-32) h) Observing a forgiving spirit to all even if they do not deserve it ( Matt. 6:14,15) i) Witnessing for the Lord (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 8:4).

Plainly, don’t get short changed. Be ready to meet our Maker. The Bible teaches that to avoid hell and gain heaven - one must:

1) Believe In Jesus As Savior (Acts 16:31) 2) Repent Of Sins (Acts 17:30) 3) Confess Christ Audibly (Acts 8:37) 4) Be Baptized In Water (Acts 2:38) 5) Live A Christian Life (Acts 14:22)
