SALVATION WITHOUT CHRIST - NO WAY

By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.

    John the apostle says that Jesus, who was with God in the beginning and who also was God, came to earth and was seen by him, and was known as a close friend by John. John states that Jesus was the light. That is, He is God, and God is light. He further testifies, "That was the true light which gives light to every person who comes into the world." John 1:9.

     Some have stated that John 1:9 should cause Christians to understand that there is salvation apart from Christ. They say the light that has come into the world, which the darkness could not apprehend, is the Christ, who is more than what we call Christianity. That light, by virtue of coming into the world, and apart from any human ambition, has put some light into every soul that is born into this world.

     If this is true that means there is something of the light of Christ in every Jew, every Buddhist, every Muslim, every Hindu, every pagan, and every atheist.Even every Nero,every Hitler,every Osama bin Laden, every Saddam Hussein, and every terrorist.

    What John has seen and shared with us is that light is available to every person, not just Jews as was Jesus, not only those with light skins, not only men, but all people on earth who hear the gospel are free to obey it and be saved from sin.We can learn truth from Jesus, bcause Truth enlightens! Truth is not exclusively earned.

     John is not by any means saying that God dwells in every human heart.  In Acts 2:38 Peter speaks about when God comes to live in a person. God sends His Spirit into human hearts when the human has heard the gospel and obeyed it. It is at water baptism that sin is washed away and the spirit comes to live in cleansed heart. It is not true that any person can be saved without Jesus.  Jesus said, ?I am the way, the truth, and the way, no one comes to the father, except through me. (John 14:6) Any teaching which contradicts our need for Jesus as personal Savior is false teaching. We have many scriptures which warn us about false teachers. For starters ome are: Matt. 7:15-23; Mark 13:22-23; II Tim. 4:3; II Pet. 2:1;

Plainly, don?t get short changed. Let?s be ready to meet our Maker. The Bible (in Acts) teaches that to avoid hell and gain heaven - one must:

1) Believe In Jesus As Savior (16:31) 2) Repent Of Sins (17:30)

3) Confess Christ Audibly (8:37) 4) Be Baptized In Water (2:38)

5) Live A? Christian Life (14:22) 6) Be Active In the Church (2:47)
