SALVATION THE CORRECT WAY
By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.
A young man who had been raised as an atheist was training to be an Olympic diver. The only religious influence in his life came from his outspoken Christian friend. The young diver never really paid much attention to his friend's comments and sermons, but unknown unto him the seed of the gospel was being sown, (I Cor. 3:9).
One night the diver went to the indoor pool at the college he attended. The lights were all off, but the pool had big skylights and the moon was bright. Thus, the thought there was plenty of light to practice.
The young man climbed up to the highest diving board and as he turned his back to the pool on the edge of the board and extended his arms out, he saw his shadow on the wall. The shadow of his body in the shape of a cross. Instead of diving, he knelt down and asked God to lead him to understand Jesus saving grace and promised to talk to his Christian friend that night about salvation. As the young man stood, a maintenance man walked in and turned the lights on. The pool had been drained for repairs.
This young man, who was an Olympic Diver Candidate, told his Christian friend of the near death instance. His friend taught him the way to salvation as the Book of Acts teaches, that being to avoid hell and gain heaven - one must:
1) Believe In Jesus As Savior (16:31) 2) Repent Of Sins? (17:30)
3) Confess Christ Audibly (8:37) 4) Be Baptized In? Water (2:38)
5) Live A? Christian Life (14:22) 6) Be Active In the Church (2:47)
When the Olympic Diver Candidate opened his heart to God's love he responded to the gospel invitation and was baptized in the same swimming pool in which he nearly met his physical death. He had been told by some religious groups that all he needed for salvation was to ask Jesus into his heart. Thank God his friend had paid attention in Sunday School and taught him the way more perfectly and completely to come under the blood of Christ.
