IS VISITATION & INVITING IMPORTANT?

By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.

A SURVEY OF 10,000 PEOPLE WHO WERE ASKED, "WHAT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ATTENDING THE CHURCH SERVICES, WHERE YOU NOW ATTEND?" - THE RESULTS:

1. ______ I HAD A SPECIAL NEED

2. ______ I JUST WALKED IN

3. ______ I LIKED THE PROGRAMS

4. ______ I ATTENDED A “SPECIAL EVENT”

5. ______ I LIKED THE MINISTER

6. ______ I WAS PERSONALLY INVITED

MATCH THE ANSWERS:
A) 1% B) 2% C) 3% D) 4% E) 5% F) 85%

This should tell us something about the need to personally invite people to attend Church Services with us. Too often we just take it for granted that people know where the church building is located and the times of the Services. We also make the mistake in thinking that people know that they are welcome to attend the Services. Some have experienced from attending other Church Services - a great deal of emotionalism (people screaming, hollering, jumping the pews, and someone attempting to drag them to the “front”).

People who we invite to Church Services should be assured that no one will attempt to drag them to the “front” nor will they be embarrassed by being asked to pray aloud, or give a testimony.

God needs Christians to be evangelistic minded and to grasp the need to be inviting people to Church Services with them. Offering a ride, and possibly fellowship afterwards can go a long way in evangelizing.
