“It’s A Rough Life!”
“I’ll run over and pick up my unemployment check, and then go over to the U and
see what’s holding up my check on my Federal Education Grant. Then I will go and
pick up our food stamps, and while I am in the area I will pick up my new Free
glasses at the Health Center.
Meanwhile, you go to the Free VD Clinic and check up on your tests. Then go to
the Welfare Department and try to increase our eligibility limit again. Later
we’ll meet at the Federal Building for the mass demonstration against this
stinking, rotten, lousy government.”
The scriptures state that if one does not work, then he/she should not be fed
(II Thessalonians 3:10). Our Senators and Congressmen would do well to read this
scripture. This is not addressing those who can not work because work is not
available or those who have physical or mental handicaps. But, it is speaking of
those who are lazy and want to live off of others.
We have a great nation and we should be grateful that America has always been
benevolent to those in need. May we encourage our fellowman not to take
advantage of a “good thing”, but always be willing to do “our share”. America
needs a multitude of workers (paid and unpaid), just as the Lord’s church. We
need to all do our part. A former U.S. President once said something similar to
this, “Let us not ask what can our nation or church do for us, but what can we
do for our nation or church?” Let’s ask ourselves - what are we doing?
