IF I WAS AN ELDER OR DEACON AGAIN,

I WOULD STRIVE TO...?

By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.

1. Recognize that I, like the Minister, live in a glass house

a. Be a good example (Talk, walk, dress, spirit...)

2. Never start or end a day without sometime being into the Bible. God

gives us 24 hours daily, 168 hours weekly..."Devotional Time" is a must...

3. Never miss a Service needlessly

a. Heb. 10:25 - It is sin to miss Services ...

b. Leaders' cars should be first in the parking lot...

4. Count it a blessing to be an Elder, Deacon or teacher

a. Christian work is more important than medical, because the

physical is temporary...

5. Avoid the words, "I usta...", "We tried it once...", or "We never tried

that before”, etc.

6. Strive to "adopt" a younger Deacon or Elder...

7. Make an effort to not be critical or to reject change (Horse & buggy,

houses without plumbing, A/C, electric, phones, TV/VCR, etc.) - Keeping

an “Open Mind" & be promoting progress in ways to spread the Gospel.

8. Endeavor to see potential in everyone (Various talents are needed...)

9. Carry out assignments to the best of my ability and on time.

10. Be prepared to "Undo" criticism & gossip.

11. Take part in the "Church Calling Program".

12. Attend all of the Seminars, Clinics, Retreats, etc., that I possibly could - in

order to prepare me as a better servant and be a good example.

13. See to it that my children were in attendance at all functions of the church,

(See articles by J. Edgar Hoover and Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.).

14. Take up the Leadership of my home and recognize that God has given me

a grave responsibility, (Hen-pecked husbands are not in God’s plan...).

15. Thank God constantly that I have been saved by His grace, and would

refuse to allow the devil to have his way in my life.
