THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN

A CHRISTIAN AND A CHURCH GOER”!

By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.

Sounds abnormal, doesn't it. But you can be a "church goer" and not be a Christian, but one cannot be a Christian and not be a regular participant of a local church, unless health or circumstances interfere (God knows the heart). Note The Following:

1) A “church goer” barely ever examines the future - a Christian measures every decision in the light of eternity.

2) A “church goer” goes to church services for what he can receive - a Christian goes to worship to honor God and to encourage others.

3) A “church goer” defines their relationship to Christ totally by going to a church meeting (or maybe just saying they do) - a Christian strives to live with God on an hourly basis.

4) A “church goer” might say a prayer silently in a church service or in a crisis - a Christian will pray daily, and constantly be in a spirit of prayer..

5) A “church goer” will depend upon the church (preacher or Sunday school teacher) for spiritual nourishment - a Christian will hunger and thirst for the word and will meditate upon it constantly.

6) A “church goer” attends worship only to feel good and often to satisfy others - a Christian knows the satisfaction of worship as well as the cost of discipleship.

7) A “church goer” will give very little to the offering - a mature Christian will give at least a tithe (10%) to show his trust in God.

8) A “church goer” will always guard areas of life away from God's connection - a Christian knows that God works in every avenue of life and selects to repent, mature, and become more like the Savior.

9) A “church goer” will hide talents and refuse to use them for the Lord’s service - a Christian will develop his/her talents, abilities, and gifts and constantly look for ways to use them repeatedly for the Lord and His church.

10) A “church goer” will be discouraged and shattered when the trials of life arrive - a Christian will be secure in Christ and remain solid.
