“GAMBLING, PARENTS, & YOUTH”
By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.
Youth do not realize
how addictive
gambling can become
and ruin their
lives. They should
be given proper
guidance by their
parents so that they
do not get involved
in such. God teaches
that we should earn
our living and not
gamble for it. The
following signs will
help parents to
monitor their lives.
1) Unexplained need
for money.
2) Missing money or
valuables from your
home.
3) Weekly or daily
card game in
youngster's room.
4) Truancy from
school.
5) Unusual time
spent watching
sports on TV.
6) Does the
youngster have an
unusual interest in
newspapers,
magazines, and
periodicals having
to do
with sports or horse
racing?
7) Large amounts of
money in his/her
possession.
8) Boasting about
winnings.
9) Intense interest
in gambling
conversations.
10) Unaccountable
explanation for new
items of value in
their possession
(e.g., jewelry,
clothes).
11) Several calls to
sports phone on
telephone bill.
12) Change of
personality (e.g.,
irritability,
impatience,
criticism or
sarcasm).
13) Unaccountable
time away from home.
14) Playing gambling
type games on the
Internet.
15) Sports gambling
tickets and/or
lottery tickets in
their possession.
Plainly, don’t
get short changed.
Be ready to meet our
Maker. The Bible
teaches that to
avoid hell and gain
heaven - one must:
1) Believe In Jesus
As Savior (Acts
16:31) 2) Repent Of
Sins (Acts 17:30) 3)
Confess Christ
Audibly (Acts 8:37)
4) Be Baptized In
Water (Acts 2:38) 5)
Live A Christian
Life (Acts 14:22)
