“TOUCH OF THE MASTER’S HAND”
By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.
The song, “The touch Of The Master’s Hand” has been used in Christian circles for years. The author is unknown, but the Lord has received a great deal of praise due to the song.
‘Twas battered and
scarred, and the
auctioneer
Thought it scarcely
worth his while
To waste much time
on the old violin,
But he held it up
with a smile.
“What am I bidden,
good folk?” he
cried,
“Who’ll start the
bidding for me?
“A dollar - a dollar
- then two, only two
-
“Two dollars, and
who’ll make it
three?
“Going for three; -
but no-
From the room far
back a gray-haired
man
Came forward and
picked up the bow,
Then, wiping the
dust from the old
violin,
And tightening the
loosened strings,
He played a melody
pure and sweet
As a caroling angel
sings.
The music ceased,
and the auctioneer,
With a voice that
was quiet and low,
Said, “NOW what am I
bid for the old
violin?”
And he held it up
with the bow.
“A thousand dollars
- and who’ll make it
two?
“Two thousand - and
who’ll make it
three?
“Three thousand once
- three thousand
twice-
“And going - and
gone,” cried he.
The people cheered,
but some of them
cried,
“We do not
understand.
“What changed its
worth? - Quick came
the reply,
“The touch of the
Master’s hand.”

(Continued)
And many a man with
life out of tune,
And battered and
scarred with sin,
Is auctioned cheap,
to a thoughtless
crowd,
Much like the old
violin.
A “mess of pottage”
- a glass of wine,
A game - and he
travels on:
He is going once -
and going twice-
He’s going - and
almost gone!
But the Master
comes, and the
foolish crowd
Never can quite
understand
The worth of a soul,
and the change
that’s wrought
BY THE TOUCH OF THE
MASTER’S HAND.
************
The hand of the Lord
Jesus has touched
many people. Due to
mankind yielding to
the hand of the
Master’s ways,
things have changed.
The gospel of Jesus
has great power
(Romans 1:16). It
has united homes,
changed men from
hate to love,
drunkards to men of
sobriety,
delinquents to God
fearing children,
idler and loafer to
conscientious
worker, thieves to
upright citizens,
etc. This is called
be “Born Again” in
the Scriptures (John
3:1-5).
It is one thing to
say that we love
God, but then
another thing to
allow His ways to be
our ways. Jesus once
said, “Not everyone
who calls me Lord,
Lord will enter the
kingdom of heaven,
but only he who does
the will of my
father who is in
heaven” (Matthew
7:21). This means
action on our part.
That is very
plain,isn’t it?
Plainly, let’s not
get caught short
changed. Let’s be
ready to meet our
Maker. The Bible
teaches in the book
of Acts that to
avoid hell and gain
heaven - one must:
1) Believe In Jesus
As Savior (16:31) 2)
Repent Of Sins
(17:30) 3) Confess
Christ Audibly
(8:37) 4) Be
Baptized In Water
(2:38) 5) Live A
Christian Life
(14:22) 6) Be active
in the church (2:47)
