“MINISTER APPRECIATION"
By Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr.
Many times the average church member does not consider the need to express an appreciative spirit toward the church’s pulpit minister and associates. One will tip the waitress in the restaurant, the paper boy, mailman, beautician, delivery boy, etc. and yet forget the man who has committed his life in God’s service. The month of October several years ago was designated as “Ministers’ Appreciation Month”. Not only during October, but would it not be grand if deserving Christian Ministers received some acts of appreciation, such as:
1) Financing an overnighter for him & his wife, (child care provided)
2) Prepare a surprise carry-in meal for him & his
3) A gift certificate for 20 gallons of gas
4) A invitation to attend a Dinner Theater, as one’s guest
5) New suit of clothes or a pair of shoes
6) Contributing toward him & his family to take a week’s vacation
7) A note stating one would volunteer in his office five hours
8) Free haircuts for a year
9) New set of tires
10) Being your guest for supper on a regular once a quarter basis
11) A gift certificate at a flower shop - to be used for his wife
12) Oil changes & filters for his car for a year
13) Bible Program for his PC
14) New watch with an alarm and calendar
15) Membership for the year at a health club
16) A subscription to a periodical of something “good”
17) Recreate him (golf, fish, ball games, bowl, etc.)
18) Electronic Organizer
19) Cell Phone subscription for a limited period
20) Books, Videos, Pen Set, etc.
P.S. Our shortage of Pulpit Ministers is growing more critical daily!
